"What Do You Want? Persistence!!!!!"
"And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight." (Mark 10:51 KJV)
Jesus' line of questioning is direct. In this Scripture verse, Jesus asked a direct question to the blind man: "What wilt thou that I should do unto thee?"
It is surprising to know that many times we have no direct response to direct questions, we tend to "beat around the bush." But, not this blind man; he had a direct response for Jesus: "Lord, that I might receive my sight."
Blind Bartimaeus sat by the highway begging alms; the noise of the crowd got his attention and he inquired. Someone in the crowd answered and said it was Jesus passing by. Bartimaeus knew what he wanted; he wanted healing and realized that his healing could come from Jesus as he may have heard so many stories of the miracles Jesus had done. He took the opportunity to cry out: "...Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me." (v. 48)
He was scolded for crying out, but he kept in his persistence. The Scripture says: "And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me." He was persistent!!!
How persistent are you this day? Are you willing to keep knocking on the door of heaven, or have you given up because of the Nay Sayers? Bartimaeus persisted and he got his healing; "And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they called the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee." (v. 49) The Nay Sayers will shut their mouths when you continue to persist; as they will realize, like Bartimaeus, you will not give up knocking on heaven's door. Bartimaeus did not give up his crying out to Jesus; he got Jesus' attention, Jesus commanded him to be called. "And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus." (v. 50)
Bartimaeus stripped himself of his old garments, he realized that he was entering the presence of the only One who could make him whole. We have to strip ourselves of all baggage when we appear before the Throne of Grace; Jesus' Message to the world is: "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30 KJV)
